Below is more important information for those concerned with Common Core:
As you know, the academic work groups to develop Missouri’s new academic standards have been convened, and work has begun.
Two sets of 2-day meetings are completed, but, the third set of meetings will meeting begin, Monday October 20. We could use your help raising public awareness that the work to develop Missouri’s own academic standards is one of the most important Missouri events of 2014!
A special event is planned for you to have your voices heard regarding these meetings.
Attached is a flyer announcing the October dates and towns when Dr. Sandra Stotsky will be speaking in Missouri.
Dr. Stotsky is Prof. Emerita of the University of Arkansas, and one of the members of the Common Core Validation Committee who would not sign off on the common core standards in English because they would not prepare students for postsecondary education. Dr. Stotsky has extensive experience evaluating academic standards, and is highly sought after as a speaker around the country. Her speaking itinerary is as follows:
Monday, October 20, Jefferson City, MO
Tuesday, October 21, Sikeston, MO
Wednesday, October 22, Springfield, MO
Thursday, October 23, Mansfield, MO
Friday, October 24, St. Louis, MO
I would like to encourage as many as possible to bring friends and family and attend the meetings closest to you, but, most especially,
. . . if you are available to come to Jefferson City on Monday October 20 to greet work group members with signs reminding them Missouri does NOT want common core, your efforts would be greatly appreciated.
Here’s the plan:
